When and how did I decide massage therapy was the right career for me?
I first 'thought' about massage therapy when I lived in Turkey. I was active duty Air Force and thought about it briefly. I purchased a book on it and then the thought passed. That was around 2005. In 2014 I was in school for cosmetology (I had gone to school for a few other things in the past, business being one of them) and for various reasons changed my major (relocating was a good bit of it). A few gals I had become friends with in cosmetology school were not crazy about the college we were attending and so we found one we liked and decided to go there. I walked in and signed up for the classes but shortly thereafter I walked into a massage class and felt like I was home. These people had these feelings and intuitions like I did, about helping others or picking up on peoples emotions/expressions/etc. I wasn't weird. I wasn't alone.
So I decided to go in for massage. I ended up moving (again) and after having my daughter in May 2014 I started college at VSOM in August 2014 (where I graduated). I have loved every minute of it. I love learning (there is SO much to learn all the time), I love meeting new people, I love helping others feel better, aide in the healing process, helping them relax/destress, etc., and meeting other therapist (this career is amazing in that each therapist can provide the exact same technique but with their own flare and make it there own unique style- PLUS - I like getting a massage too!! AND understanding that if a client is looking for something particular I don't do I can refer them to a therapist that can).
It has been an amazing journey thus far and I hope to continue doing it for years and years to come!
